Ah yes ... Reminds me of what was "normal life" until three years go. Rossis, Tomassis, and a gorgeous Arrow III parked on the tarmac at EGMC. Happy days - but I wouldn't go back to that after real life in rural Suffolk.

just looked at the Southend web site
is Stobart handling mandatory?
I don't need handling just landing and overnight parking fees?
thanks

I think you will find that compulsory handling is over a specified MTOW. To be 100% certain call Flight Planning on 01702 608125.

Looking to use the ILS at Southend on Friday to get signed off on the ILS for my IR(R). What is the cost of the ILS for a PA28? Do you have to land to pay for the fees; or can I ring up when I land at base and pay over the phone with a valid debit card? I have to do 4 ILS's approaches to get signed off, + a landing fee that's one expensive way to do it.

1 Tonne go-around fee is £17.50 + VAT (x4 for 4 ILS to missed approaches). You do not have to land, if you do the landing fee is £24 + VAT and this includes one of the ILS approaches. You can pay be card over the phone to the flight briefing office.

If you can take radar vectors for most of the ILS's this usually makes it easier to get a booking at/near the time you want (01702 538420).

That's actually a good deal. The Biggin ILS is £50 for training flights. Hence why we are flying towards Southend to do the training. Great news, that does save a bit of money as we will stop at Headcorn for lunch and do another flight back to Biggin.

Instructor wants to book nearer the time, once weather is decided on.

Southend Charges landing fee of £24 + VAT for below 1.5 Tonnes, £48 between 1.5 & 2.5 Tonnes. Their fee lists do not make this clear that the charges iclude to the .5 Tonne however. If in doubt call the FBO on 01702 538593.

Weekend Crossrail works until the early new year Planned disruptions make the weekend train link to Liverpool Street less usable for hassle-free London W/E visits. Single fare is £15.10 and takes around 55 minutes Southend Airport Abellio. Here is the Timetable.

Some food options:
The 1935 Bar on the top floor of the Southend Airport Holiday Inn has a reasonable selection and has views over much of the aprons and airside. Just over the road from Holiday Inn is the ubiquitous McDonalds.
Nearest Kentucky Fried Chicken to EGMC. Just about walking distance from North-west maintenance areas if you have somewhere to park there, but not easily walk-able if going through the FBO.
Walking towards Southend on Manners Way there is 'Fish to go' does reasonable take-away fish and chips etc.
And McDonalds adjacent the airport entrance (opposite the Holiday Inn).

The Mandatory Handling NOTAM for all aircraft has at last been cancelled, as the works progress. MH position is as per the AIP AD 2.4 Line 7: "Handling mandatory for all non-based civil aircraft with a MTWA of over 2.5 Tonnes".
Requirement for PPR still applies though (see NOTAM).

The landside snack bar in the passenger terminal is re-opened ; it closes late, apparently 2300.
No view of airside from it, just arriving passengers.
