Not the best GA stopover, unless you need lights/customs/ILS etc. Bear in mind GA movement restrictions in the AIP (typically not between 22:00 and 06:00 local)

Very long main runway with long crosswind runway, used by Easyjet as well as some of the bigger names.

On arrival after vacating, ground will (should) send you to the GAC, probably with a follow me marshaller. If offered the GAGBA, tell them you want the GAC. After parking/shutting down, if the marshaller has disappeared, enter the nearby building next to the Cusoms hut and call extension 1234 for a Navette. Dont forget everything you want to take and your licence/passport (photo ID) as it is a pain and expensive to go back!

You will get tipped off at gate E and left on your own! Down the spiral staircase, through the automatic doors in front of you, and right at the end. This brings you out at the baggage belts. Choose your exit - Swiss side (for Basel/Bale/Basle) or French (for France! and Germany). You will go past Customs at this point where you can declare all your worldly goods.

To get back, go to the information desk which spans the Swiss and French sides on the ARRIVALS floor (Level 2) and pay your landing/parking and Navette fees. Whatever they tell you at the desk, your next stop is the Police where they will inspect your licence. Then go upstairs to departures (Level 3), on the French side to Gate 32, on the Swiss to 'Oversized Baggage' where you will get scanned/searched, along with the baggage x-ray. You will have to wait here whilst the Navette driver comes to collect you. If you forgot to go to the police (or listened to the nice lady at the info desk and went straight upstairs), you go back downstairs

Take the Navette back to the GAC, and if you haven't already filed your flight plan, call 2612/2614 to file over the phone, or to book out ('an annoucement'). For a VFR departure, they will ask for your exit point.

Get in your mount, get the ATIS & call ground for start, taxi, and then when at the holding point for departure, you will be transferred to Tower.

Don't expect a quick turnaround, you might be able to do an hour wheels down to take off if there are no delays.

Landing up to 2 tons ~ 24 EUR inc 24 hours parking, Navette each way 22EUR, so about EUR68 for up to 24 hours. Landing fees can vary a bit for International/National/Local, full details on the EuroAirport website. Fuel via AirBP, call from the GAC. No briefing facilities easily available, use a WiFi/GPRS laptop from the terminal

I investigated Basel a couple of years ago for a trip to Switzerland and came to the surprising conclusion that Zurich (LSZH) was cheaper and easier, despite being 5 times as busy. The experience at Zurich confirmed that.

Zurich has now introduced mandatory handling but it seems to be well focused on GA.

Small update: it's still not a great GA destination unless you need 4000m of wide runway, or lights you haven't pre-arranged with somewhere else.

The GAC building has now been demolished, and there is no phone (or toilet!) in the vicinity of the GAC parking, so call ground frequency to arrange your Navette or fuel, the latter which is Esso/Exxon only now for Avgas (cash/credit card ok): alternatively use a mobile to call +33 389 90 +4digit extension, or if you prefer +41 61 325 +4digit extension. When you make the Police check, they will telephone the departures security bods, who in turn will require your 'GAR' form when you get there, before they search you and your baggage/pax

'GAR' forms and other info from the website http://www.euroairport.com/en/professio ... ilots.html
