Bremen is an old Hanseatic town (like Hamburg, Lübeck, Gdansk, Visby and Tallinn) with a nice historic center straddling the river Weser. We chose the main airport, EDDW, for a visit in July 2016. The VFR approach for runway 27 (most commonly used) from the northeast was very easy: enter at point November at 2,000 ft and follow the river. You then see the airport and can turn right base just by the football stadium used by Werder Bremen.

It was pricey, though: more than 40 EUR for landing and overnight parking. Getting to town is a breeze: there's a tram stop just in front of the airport.

There's a cheaper option: EDWQ Ganderkesee just to the west of the EDDW control zone. We did a fuel stop there last year; can't remember the landing fee. You'd probably need a taxi from there to the town, though.
