I nobly offered to take my wife to see it, even though I can't stand La Boheme (I have seen it more times than I wish, and for me even one viewing would be too many). Luckiliy, she declined the offer, so I have escaped. I know that people love this opera, and this production of it, but it just doesn't work for me.

FG,

I think that you will find that clapping individual arias is more of an ROH thing than an ENO thing, rather than Sunday pm vs any other time.

It's our 2nd opera here in 3 weeks and I think I understand what you're saying, there seems to be more of a 'tourist' crowd and I don't mean that to be as condescending as it may sound, but the Sunday matinee did seem to be somewhat more relaxed.
