There have been a number of topics started recently by forum new joiners, which have essentially been spam.
I thought it used to be the case, that first posts / new topics by a poster needed moderator approval? Worth turning that feature back on?

Yes , a fix is being worked on. Because of how new users are now assigned to user groups (this now varies depending on level of Flyer Club membership) it’s a wee bit more fiddly.

Presumably if spammers want to pay the annual membership then they should be allowed the first spam post, quickly deleted, before they are deprived of any ability to post unscreened? A small price to pay for some useful funding.

Less intrusive than ads at the end of the day.
