Forum crashing IE

For the last few days, on my PC at work Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7, IE crashes and reloads every time I change pages in the forum. Doesn't happen with Safari on my elderly MacBook at home nor on my iPhone 4s.

IE doesn't properly support HTML and related standards and never has really. It's a Microsoft bodge on top of Mosaic the original graphical browser. It is no longer really supported by MS who are now promoting EDGE under Windows 10, which may eventually work properly.

Firefox, Chrome and Safari will generally work much better.

Thank you johnm but we are not allowed to put software on work computers.

I've no issues Windows 10, IE11. At home I normally use Edge - rarely have a problem on any site with Edge (including this forum).

Sorry - no help! A website shouldn't be able to crash a browser.

I'm getting the same thing with Win7 / IE11, but neither with Win7 / FireFox nor Win10 / IE11....

There was a Micro$oft 'update' on 20 Jun for Win7 and another on 27 Jun - I suspect one or other is the culprit.

The same fault also affects various other websites which have been fine hitherto.... :?

A malfunctioning or malicious add-on has caused Internet Explorer to close this webpage.

Dates seem about the same, my work computer did numerous updates around then, the time of the most recent ransom-ware scare. I'm not sure that I get quite that scary a message (IIRC it doesn't say malicious) but something along those lines.

I had this happening on IE11 after a Windows 7 update - trawling the internet revealed it was KB4022168 causing certain websites to crash. Uninstall and all will be back to normal.

Thanks - that seems to have done the trick.

Although after killing KB4022168, I then had to reinstall 6 'important updates'. They wouldn't install as a group, so I then had to install them individually and restart the computer each time. Finally all seems to be well though, so thanks again!

I also read that the Micro$oft Internet Explorer 'team' aren't bothering to sort out this sort of behaviour any more, concentrating their resources on Microsoft Edge instead.

Typical M$ arrogance....

It will be interesting to see if MS can get one of their browsers to work properly, meantime we can all carry on happily with Firefox, Chrome or Safari

More information from Micro$oft here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -kb4022168

And yes, I know that there's no problem when using Firefox etc. - but that doesn't absolve Micro$oft from fixing their own browser compatibility issues. Particularly when those arise from so-called 'updates and improvements' of their own making.

Windows updated itself over the weekend, seems OK now.
