Hmmm, makes me wonder how you would know that the A/P T/C has failed, or is it visibly in the line of scan as well?

The KAP140 has a similar configuration. In the DA40, its turn coordinator is mounted behind the PFD, so failure has to be deduced from the other instruments.

The G1000 now has its own autopilot, the GFC700, which is apparently like flying on rails. The downside is that it is dependent on the AHRS, so when that fails, you lose the autopilot as well as your nice, wide artificial horizon. Cirrus are the only manufacturer to take that issue seriously, so their new SR22 Perspective comes with two AHRSs, and a hefty price increase.
