Airport to station is about the same for Rotterdam and Lelystad and there is not much difference in total journey time. Fast train Lelystad > Amsterdam is about 45 minutes.

Depending on timing may be able to offer a lift to the station.

Similar guidance much appreciated… I am planning a VFR trip to Sylt in a single and am considering a stop either in Groningen (where we have friends) or Schipol (for the pilot experience).

For the former, will I be able to route through Schipol’s class A en route? Thinking to the southeast via INKET and AMEGA. If I plan via Schipol, has anything changed in terms of GA friendliness?

Have IR(R) so safe to pop through a little cloud under a radar service though obv cannot accept an IFR clearance.

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn’t admit to flying IFR when supposedly VFR! You’ll open a right can of worms for yourself if it all goes pear shaped, !

Although I can’t recommend it. I know a lot of people who fly VFR in cloud on an IMC in Europe. Of course it’s not allowed and unless you are very blatant you will probably get away with it.

But if checked you won’t get away with being in class A on an IMC.

All agreed. My view is that I am perfectly happy to use my skills to keep me safe but of course it would be a last resort.

I don’t think there is lot of flexibility for VFR in Class Alpha in Northern Europe? Southern Europe is different :D

You will be as lucky getting pop-up transit overhead London under VFR at 4000ft than crossing Amesterdam

I recall Amesterdam did not let me cross their Class Alpha TMA on Eurocontrol IFR as I dropped to FL60 in North Sea due to weather, ATC rerouted me all the way south with “cancel IFR, contact Dutch Mil”

No one cares if you fly VFR in IMC in Golf away from aerodromes (along semi-circular cruise levels), maybe one or two guys here and there in the forums would give you a lecture on it, usually one or two pilots who never been in clouds  in practice no one really cares, especially ATC…doing it in Delta, Charlie, Bravo on VFR clearance (or Echo with 7000 or crossing published IFR routes in Golf) is very different and reckless

Flying aircraft while dealing with airspace while “VFR in IMC” is very challenging, someone with IRR flying VFR (PS: it’s not valid to fly IFR in Netherlands) may get overwhelmed unless he practices a lot: like flying around M25 from Biggin to Elstree at 2000ft in the soup, now doing that in a different country with complex and well guarded airspace, well good luck :thumleft:
