And, I thought the mod included 4 roof lights:

I learnt to fly fxed wing in a C152 Aerobat that had two roof lights. Very useful for an overhead check.

The accident involving G-AVNV and G-AVNS was not fatal. It occurred over the Isle of Wight when the prop of NV sliced through NS's rudder.

I'm not sure which prompted the mod with the roof windows.

The Hamble mod is the only one I have encountered anywhere in the world.

Piper must have signed it off with the CAA?

HI Guys, just to clear up a few points on the thread regarding the mid-air between the two Hamble Cherokees in 1970....sadly both students were killed in the accident. One aircraft was flying an early go-around initiated by ATC and as he climbed through 500 feet turned to continue his climb to 1000'. This placed him under an aircraft joining cross wind into the circuit and neither aircraft saw each other. As a result of the crash, those extra overhead windows were fitted. I "THINK" also that full harnesses were retrofitted, as the cross shoulder inertia harness proved to have been of little use in the helping the pilots to survive . I was a student there at the time, and it was a sobering experience for all of us, including the College staff.
I have seen one of the old Hamble Chero's down at St Marys , Isles of Scilly, and they are certainly the only Cherokees I know that have this mod done.

Flyer Frank - check your facts, your statement is incorrect. TP had made a normal takeoff, not an ATC commanded go-around; there were no ATC commands, one announced what one intended to do... Yes JS joined the circuit on the crosswind leg but unfortunately too far out.
I was downwind in the circuit at the time, it is the only time I have heard a Mayday (made by a SUAS Chipmunk pilot) a very chilling experience followed by hope of our friend's survival that was soon dashed.

G-AVNW is still flying, with the owner who bought it in 1984. based at Popham and still going very nicely.
I took it down to Scilly last summer, among other places.
