Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

Hi All,

BYP has already popped up on this forum but I wanted to introduce it properly - mainly because we have growing list of flying clubs and I’m currently putting a team of instructors together, I thought this might be a good place to start.

British Young Pilots is a Flying Club for Children and Teenagers. We take students through a varied aviation based academic syllabus and teach practical flying skills on simulators. Each student then has the chance to take the controls of a real aircraft twice per term. By doing the majority of teaching on a SIM, the real flights the children take are high impact and have high training value. This makes aviation accessible and affordable and keeps the cost of teaching young people to fly low (relatively speaking!).

Our current model is to work within schools, running an in school flying club as a co-curricular club or class. We have found, unsurprisingly, that the independent school sector are the most welcoming and we have a growing stable of independent schools running (or waiting to start) a School Flying Club with BYP.

I am keen to hear from any experienced aviators who would be interested in becoming a BYP Club Instructor at a local school. This is primarily a ground/SIM teaching role so you do not need an instructor rating (though it could easily be a flying role too with appropriate experience/ticket). The commitment is one to two afternoons/evenings per week during term time and BYP pay instructors £50 per hour. There’s a lot of support with training, weekly lesson plans and a detailed syllabus, though there’s also plenty of space to put your own mark on things.
