Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

The add-on cost of having a Physical US Address to comply with this is $200 a year.

That’s why the firm I mentioned above which is offering this at $70 is already better value.
Whilst I predict that nearer the registration time next summer a fee of $10 is more probable.
[One of the American pilot Associations I belong to is contemplating doing it for free if one retains membership.]

This seems a massive overkill for a non existent problem.

I’ve held a 61.75 piggyback licence for almost 50 years and in that time I have received just ONE piece of correspondence from the FAA - and that only occurred because the FAA themselves decided to change to the plastic card licence (i wish the CAA would change to plastic cards)!

So had this had been in force from day one, (even at $100 per year), I could have paid out over $5000 to receive this one item of correspondence.

So even if I were lucky enough to have another 20 years of aviating, I might pay out $2000, to receive perhaps one solitary piece of correspondence from the FAA.

Personally, I’m not sure that it is good value to pay $2-3,000 simply to (maybe) fly maybe an average of perhaps 2-3 hours per year in the US,

$5 or 10 PA would ok, but $100-200 PA might not be (at least for me).

At the end of the day, I think many of us will find a ‘friend’ who will do this for nothing and/or perhaps Flyer can do a deal with a friendly Aviation contact who would do this for us.
I have been in contact with AOPA US, which I have been a member for 25 years, to encourage them to find a solution.
I have suggested to them that if, as the FAA claims, there are 118,000 people needing this service there is a market worth tapping!
