Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

... and just to stir it a bit more, try comparing the Vector results for PAW with SE2 in the same aeroplane. Very enlightening.
(this is basically what the article in the LAA mag some time ago did. It was much criticised at the time, but doing it for yourself tends to open your eyes a bit.
Of course they do different things, PAW doesn't do adsb out, but the difference between them on Vector is startling)

I have zero Mode S also. Didn't I read that PAw have disabled this in Vector as it was being swamped?

Can I borrow your SE2 please?

Let's just say, I really wouldn't bother...

Your playing the same game we play internally :D
Determine if it is internal/external antenna and where the antenna is placed
or what material is used in the airframe

Take a look at a helicopter with an internal antenna and you will see severe masking due to the tail rotor setup

PS, does anyone know how to enable BBcode, it seems to be off permanently

BB code is temporarily unavailable on the forum while it's updated.

Two (or three) different things here.

The vector diagrams are produced by receiving transmissions on the ground stations. They receive Mode S and can multilaterate it to give a position. This can give a diagram for a Mode S emission from an aeroplane, but from the thread I understand in the case of producing vector diagrams this is currently switched off not to overload the system.

PAW itself has always received Mode S, as a bearingless contact, shown as a relative height and an approximate proximity.

With the ground network mentioned above, Mode S is multilaterated and sent back up as a known position contact for PAW users to receive.

Just to complete the topic on Mode-S Vector capability, its actually quite unique

Firstly, can a ground station receive a ping from a Mode-S transponder,
if no, then exit
if yes, then
do we have a position report, and track from either PAW, FLARM, MLAT ?
if no, then exit
if yes, then
record this ICAO/Mode-S position and track

This then builds the database records for that specific ICAO/Mode-S combination

The problem is, it is terabytes of data, and too much to continually store on a long term basis
we may resurrect this with an optimized database structure in the future, but its not at the top of the list right now.

Hi,
This was a snapshot taken in Dec 2021

I am not sure I understand the question.

The discussion here is about VECTOR, which is an amalgamation of historical performance data, to indicate EC emitter deficiency

What Live information of data are you referring to ?

Thx
