Hi Lee

There is a website where you can see exactly which groundstations are where and what their status is. I have looked at it a few times and was surprised to the number of stations, mostly active but there were also a fair few which had not been online for some time. And coverage in the area where I commonly fly was not good, one of the reasons I continue to use SkyEcho with FLARM from SD, notably because the FLARM is also a direct acft to acft provision, and gliders are IMO opinion, for my flying the biggest threat.

You surely must know what I am referring to?

I will have a rummage around later to see if I can find it again.

Sorry, I think that is my fault for asking about the map. I think [usermention=233]@Flyin'Dutch'[/usermention] is referring to this website.

https://radar.lowflyingwales.co.uk/pilo ... tributors/

Which I found after you posted the screenshot a few posts back.

I like the ability to click on a ground station and see it’s predicted visibility trace. It would be brilliant if there was an option to turn on all the visibility traces simultaneously, this would highlight black spots really well. Although the 5000’ coverage looks to be pretty much total as long as you are south of the Tay.

Obviously real world performance may not match the predictions.

If you let us have your ICAO code, we can easily check the performance of your devices
you can PM me if you want it kept private
Thx

Cheers Lee

I had a look on the chart listed above and around the Leicestershire area in the UK and in the whole of Northern Germany there is very poor coverage on that chart, in Germany as there are no stations it would appear and in the Leicestershire area due to about a third of stations being off line. Is that correct?

Anyway I just found the link to the chart I looked at before but the certificate has expired and even when clicking through there is nothing on there:

https://aircrew.co.uk/playback/groundst ... 1652353200

That used to work and show traffic and give information about station 'health' if I remember correctly?

The Coverage in Leicestershire is very good, in the centre we have EGBG itself, I have plotted another few stations

I am interested to know where you think the coverage is missing ?
As you can see there is very good overlap and redundancy

I can generate the VECTOR diagram, just need your ICAO code ?

Thanks Rich, I went through our database and found a number of vector diagrams for the same type using CAP1391 (which would always be internal antenna) and PilotAware, which could be internal or external, I am pretty certain the following is an external antenna, and I am guessing the slight rear obscuration at 5 and 7 o'clock could be the Trike wheels ?

That data was gathered over 7 days, so I tried to find another CTSW device which would have internal antenna also over 7 days of usage, here is a CAP1391 device

I think this shows definitively the difference of antenna placement, especially based upon the airframe.
