R154, R155..... Why ?

Idle curiosity but why are there these two Restricted areas along the River Severn.
The old Magnox nuclear power stations at Berkeley and Oldbury have long been shut down and decommissioned, and fuel rods etc removed.
IIRC the restrictions at similar decommissioned power stations at Bradwell Bay and Trawsfynydd were removed some time ago , so why is there R154 and R155 ?

Quite a few people asked the same question in the Airspace Classification Review: Cotswold Region Engagement: https://consultations.caa.co.uk/safety- ... ngagement/
Consultation ended 30th September 2021, so hopefully some progress report is due soon.

Hasn't Oldbury been proposed as a site for a new nuclear power station?

Yes, but plans collapsed in 2020.

‘Scuse my naivety but there’s a grass strip inside R154. How does that work? AIP advises restricted apart from helicopters landing at Oldbury with site owners permission. Just trying to learn by experience as well as reading skyway code/air law etc.

It’s not the only strip inside a restricted area. Brimpton also springs to mind which has local rules for raring and departing.

I asked that very question on this forum on 16 August. The wheels clearly grind very slowly indeed! See viewtopic.php?p=1865241#p1865241

They are going to disappear once Magnox do a Level 0 ACP. See https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CA ... 202021.pdf

Still the plan according to CAP2359 (https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/Ai ... 202022.pdf)
And still waiting for Magnox to send safety data. Eternal problem that the CAA has no way to push the other stake holder for prompt action.
