I recall when gliding in Scotland, it’s was a treat to call Scottish Info and ask for basic service, they would even let you into Airways, TRA, TMZ above FL100 without TXP

It’s unlikely to die alone: usually it was 2 or 3 gliders, everybody had XCSoar and when mobile data (3G/GPRS) is around you get an approximate position of other gliders (not as strong to watch Justin Bieber on YT but you can get Watsup messages at FL120 with some patience)

I still think it would have been wise to carry portable PLB (never had one back then but I would carry one now)

I am doubt the FPL is useful for gliding SAR? (next would be to declare mayday for off-field landing and asking for landing clearance :lol: )
