Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

There’s surprisingly little if anything on the Pilotaware site about this …..

Oops, I guess the PAW team will need to come up with a new name then!

PS. Just looked and SKYGRID is a Limited Liability Company, the name of one of their products and is registered in the name as a Trade Mark (TM) and Service Mark.

It seems to have the backing of Boeing too, so probably not worth upsetting them.

@marioair Still being Beta tested, so they’ll not release it or give details until everything is working as it should. The CAA could learn a thing or two here :D

@PaulSS

That’s fair enough. But it’s odd for Flyer to run an article on it if there’s nothing to reference in the official site.

Would be good to get more detail on it before the usual suspects rock up and sling mud

So what?

SkyDemon was originally called SkyAngel. Names change.

My brother in his RV-6.5 is one of the BETA testers. Was issued with a couple of dongles and instructions how to set up.

He flies from Barton and has completed a number of flights up towards Morecambe Bay and also around the Wirral stopping in at Sleap for very cheap fuel.

So far his impression of the increased efficiencies is very good with lots of positive feedback from the chap at PAW who is managing him.

Not being very technical in these matters I can't say more except to say that Lee, Keith and the Team are really pushing the boundaries for all our benefit. :thumleft:

The press release seems to imply it's just a software upgrade, but now it seems we may have to buy a couple of dongles.

Or is there more than one level of service - a software upgrade delivers one level of improvement but to get the full package you need to spend money on more kit (and potentially more faffing about in the cockpit each time I fly)?

In order to provide clarification.

SkyGRID is a purely software enhancement, to Rosetta, the ATOM stations and the GRID infrastructure.

The earlier mention of an addon piece of hardware is actually un-related to SkyGRID, and is part of a further radical development which is also underway.

All existing Rosetta and classic systems will support this further development which is still under wraps (for the time being), but is being actively (and successfully) trialed by a number of users - even as I type!

Thx

As PAW's use of SkyGrid would be within the UK, USA LLC's and trademarks do not apply.

There are only two UK companies using Sky Grid or Skygrid in their names and both are dormant.

Skygrid is not registered as a UK trademark, @leemoore1966 you might want to register it.

Domain names skygrid.uk and skygrid.org.uk are both available.

In the interests of co-ordination with the term Sky Grid and a better understanding of the concept can we expect to see ATOM GRID renamed Earth Grid? I doubt very few could say what ATOM stands for without looking it up.

You don't mention classic systems in the context of SkyGRID - are they also included?

"A further development" - your team just keeps on going! Many thanks.
