Enroute Yeadon to Jersey at FL260 around Enstone, Moreton-in-Marsh. The inversion was at about 5,000', so well below, but this line went NE - SW for about 30 miles or so. Any suggestions ?

Then a little further on another cloud anomaly - like a cloud cliff ! This was about 30 miles further on, so maybe 20 miles north of Southampton. Seen these affects quite a few times, but not had it explained.

This might sound incredibly far-fetched (and wrong!), but is there any chance this is caused by rising hot air from a light aircraft exhaust emission flying a bit below the inversion layer, on a cold day?

My first thought was aircraft - military jet?

I have seen aircraft routes change high level cloud formations, so why not lower down too. You can similarly spot the French nuclear power stations due cloud changes.

A good question for Simon tomorrow evening?!

Suggest you save the pics for 25th December.......Obvs a trial run by the man himself. Perhaps he's fitted a new propulsion unit and needed a test flight?

My pics are looking west or south west. However to the east the cloud cliff was against clear blue sky. The bottom pic kindof shows it a bit.

Yes it’s convergence, I dared to fly though one of the cliffs once near Corsica, just a quick kick in the b**t during the transition nothing to worry about :D

Free lift if you are after “sea soaring”
