With a Nome temperature of -14C, UHMA, her next destination at -16C (and has been down to -26C recently), with another 2000 nm to reach positive temperatures, with frequent snow falls and icing conditions, and daylight reducing quickly as Nome is quite close to the Arctic Circle, has Zara left it too late in the year for a safe VFR transit of that area ?

Yes it’s a bit too late in the year with risk of getting stuck in those corners, she is flying VFR, airframe icing would not be much of a problem if staying out of clouds but one needs good weather days for that and there are not that many left…

At -25C in the surface will surely hit the limits for engine & fuel & oil in the Shark

VHF is marginal after about 60-70 miles even at 5000'. I think Zara may have an Iridium phone to make position reports. Other option is to hail an airliner on 121.5 and ask for a relay.
Interestingly, Canada is promoting satellite ADSB reception, but you need a diversity transponder with an extra aerial on top of the aircraft.
