Having read Carl Meek's post on different country requirements (Germany permit is listed as ?) does anyone have 2021 experience of procedure for permit aircraft flying in Germany please? I have searched the AIP and Gen 1-17 (from a LAA post but dated 2002) where permission needs to be applied for but has anyone applied to the DFS and what email address was successful?

Any help much appreciated.

Are you intending to fly a UK reg permit a/c to Germany?

If so you’ll need to consider the route and other countries over which you may fly.

Also your pilot licence status if it’s an NPPL.

We went to Bonn & Koblenz in August in an RV8. No problem at all.

GAM-DVR-Calais-KOK-LNO direct across Belgium at FL60. Most accommodating.

Biggest difference we found was everyone in Germany on the radio speaking German only.

Enjoy your trip

If your Permit aircraft is not a homebuilt, then as above you'll require permission. (Max 180 days each year)

The link unfortunately doesn't give contact details from whom to request permission, although it references Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, Division B 1 (https://www.lba.de/DE/LBA/Organisation/ ... _node.html)

Strangely they don't seem to publish email contacts but the postal address and relevant phone numbers are:

Luftfahrt-Bundesamt
Division B 1
38144 Braunschweig
Fax: +49 531 2355-3199
Telephone: +49 531 2355 + extension 3102/3125/3126

@patowalker - (or anyone) is that GEN 1-17 blanket permission for ECAC countries still in the German AIP?

I ask because the German AIP available through SkyDemon now has nothing after GEN 1-7, and whilst GEN 1-2 has a section on "aircraft with restricted certification" it doesn't mention ECAC or the blanket permission.

I'm hoping it's just that I can't find it!

Edit: The German AIP VFR is now online (as of 3 weeks ago) and does have GEN 1-x Sections beyond GEN 1-7.

However, GEN 1-17 is now 'Air to Air Communication'.

The AIP IFR is apparently the one available through SkyDemon (because the LBA have not released the AIP VFR in pdf or other transportable format) and pp GEN 1.2-15/16 have the page quoted above.

I still cannot find any reference to ECAC in the current documents yet, though.

It is still there . See the LBA website https://www.lba.de/EN/Operations/EntryP ... nn=2099536 which links to https://www.lba.de/SharedDocs/Downloads ... onFile&v=3

However, sub-ICAO licences issued by non-EEA member states require validation.

Any questions should be addressed to info.entrypermission(at)LBA.DE

Thanks - any idea why it might be that linked page is at variance with what the published AIP says (which doesn't mention ECAC)?

See my edit above for context.

That's very helpful - I think I'll be taking a printout of the second link with me!

Aren't you pleased that Westminster hasn't worked out that ECAC is a European Organisation!

:-)

I had a look on the LBA site as that linked page seemed old - but I agree with Patowalker that for homebuilt aeroplanes no specific permission required; I am not sure whether the same goes for other LAA types (the ones who previously held a CofA but have been moved to LAA as being orphaned by their old TC holders)
