Over a week ago, I registered with the CAA portal and submitted all the identity information to allow me to book a medical. The portal now says, "Medical - your application for this service is with the CAA".

Is this a usual delay, or have some electrons gone missing?

On Cellma's past performance... Both.

It’ll take a while, and expect to not be able to access Cellma via the CAA online portal.

Mine took around 2 weeks. You then get a mail which has a link to enter your details. I'm married to a nurse & fairly medically savy. I would guess that some will struggle to answer some of the questions.
Once completed you then phone your AME to book an appointment.
Be warned my AME completed it all. printed the medical cert off & mine had all the wrong dates on it! He has printed & is posting it to me.
Not sure what the whole CELLMA thing does TBH. Seems another layer of bureaucracy that achieves nothing.

If you claimed your EC rebate, you should already have a portal. Adding Cellma to that took me about 5 minutes but I haven't booked a medical using it yet.

As usual, it was devised and implemented by the less blessed brethren at the Ministry who have not done beta testing to fine tune the system - don't let medics loose with computer stuff :clown:

Normalisation of the abnormal, more like it.

I’d love to see the detail of how Cellma was selected.

As someone who spent 40 years developing and implementing both bespoke and package software, this one smacked of someone believing that it would absolve them of having to think too hard about requirements - particularly the non-functional ones.

My experience of working with public sector IT was generally disappointing. In most cases the assumption was that it would go wrong and so the goal of client staff was to avoid blame rather than engage with producing something that worked effectively.

They are culturally stuck in a rut of self fulfilling prophesy
