Passing through Glos yesterday I taxied out behind a blue Pitts Special, which from the prop speed and large exhausts, was fitted with a Turbine engine.
From the Fire Appliance in attendance and RT ,chat it was obviously a first flight.

Thought for a minute someone had a Pitts Toucan over here in the UK !!! - I believe their downfall was the mass of air needed for the PT6 which wasnt available during most advanced aerobatic manouvres (sp?) - impressive aircraft ( the Toucan) though....... :D :D :D :D

I remember a couple of jet-assisted aircraft at Oshkosh 2019. The first was a Pitts type of aircraft which an extra jet engine for good measure. The second was a ‘Yak 110’ which, not content with already having two piston engines, added a jet engine for a bit more fun. Both provided good ‘beat up’ displays with a lot of noise :thumright:.

That was the ‘Pitts type’ of aircraft to which I was referring (I never claimed to be good at aircraft type recognition).

It appears @russp is correct. This particular Pitts is a piston-engined Pitts with the addition of two small turbojets. Easily mistaken by the OP as exhausts for a turboprop.

Now this is quite interesting, the OP called it a turbine, which is correct. He didn't call it a turbo-prop, but people seem to be suggesting he did; why?

Because he arrived at the 'Turbine' conclusion from the prop speed and large exhausts.. at least that was my line of thinking.

Large "apparent" exhausts...an easy misunderstanding, especially if seeing strange appendages upon a un-normal-looking aircraft (and concentrating upon the management of one's own aircraft during taxying) :D

Hi Old Fart, I have a feeling you are from Brimpton.
The Youtube link will hopefully answer some questions about The Anana sponsored Pitts Special that you heard at Glos on Thursday :D
