Isle of Man investor Etyll is set to acquire both Carlisle Airport (for about £15 million) and Stobart Air (which has lost its Aer Lingus contract from end of next year). The deal, which is quite complex, should close in the next couple of weeks.

Stated intentions are to retain all current staff in both operations, and a development plan will be published in a few months.

Not seen/read this much about this in the aviation press yet. Hopefully it will ensure continued operations at Carlisle which recently benefitted from a nice shiny rebuilt runway.

Don't hold your breath. The gentleman behind this has an interesting reputation and none of it has anything to do with aviation..........
He bought it for a peppercorn and a handful of promises. I understand that a bank has not yet been found to underwrite the finance.
I always hope to be proved wrong.

So with all the government leaflets on protecting airfields, what type of scrutiny or legislation has been added to preserve it as such?

Well that sounds quite the complex arrangement. They're taking on the airline but with the airport effectively to hedge the liabilities of the airline?

It'll be interesting to see what they do with it. Hopefully not a housing development or industrial estate
