The only Q code I still use is QNH. I have no dinosaurs in my ancestry as far as I can tell. :twisted:

If Farnborough can’t manage standard departure routes, then they should be required to cope with departure clearance in cooperation with the FISOs the current situation is just ridiculous.

The Bushe have (on the link I gave) even offered a suggested kneeboard insert for people to use;

Yep, noone uses Q codes on the RT or on phone coordination any more. The world has moved on.

Well done IE. Top of the class!

That was the plan but I understand for Fairoaks traffic, the system was binned by Farnborough almost straight away as 'unworkable'.
Strange because many years ago, we had a system whereby both Blackbushe and Fairoaks FISOs would pre-notify ALL departures to the Farnborough ATC assistant who would write a strip and place it in front of the controller.
This system was suspended for the duration of a Farnborough Airshow and our bosses at the time never bothered to re-instate it.

If only we had integrated air traffic control services in the UK working together to expedite ALL flights rather than a whole collection of groups saying "gerouttaMYairspace".

Yep, I don’t disagree but better than a freecall/Infringement?

@carlmeek did you get the AFISO to speak to Farnborough before your departure as per the EGLK helpful webpage;

Transits of Farnborough CTR on Departure

Those aircraft wishing to transit beyond the LFA but still within the Farnborough CTR shall request a suitable clearance, initially from Blackbushe ATSU.

Blackbushe ATSU will pass the aircraft callsign, type and destination.

Farnborough will issue a Squawk, QNH, and a departure clearance. The typical restriction will be not above 2000ft, holding North West of Fleet Pond or North of M3 Junction 4.

Standard M3 Junction 4 Departure

GABCD, Farnborough clears you to cross Farnborough Control Zone, via M3 Junction 4, VFR, not above altitude 2000ft, hold north of M3 Junction 4. Squawk XXXX, QNH XXXX. Contact Farnborough Radar Frequency 133.440.

Lots of shall/will in that.

Leaving airspace design aside, there are standard clearances for departures off both Blackbushe runways. Blackbushe Information will always get you that clearance prior to departure. Using the standard online booking out form at Blackbushe, just tick the box for Farnborough clearance and the clearance will be with you prior to departure. It’s actually very simple. Today, for instance, my standard clearance off runway 07 going south was via M3 Junction 4. I haven’t had to hold yet and got a straight onward clearance (and squawk ident) to Tongham VRP as I called up.

Or an integrated plan of aerodromes working together to serve flights and their communities rather than a disjointed cluster of aerodromes in close proximity with at least one saying “get out of MY runway and ramp [unless you have at least £520 to spare]”.

For reference, the standard clearance going south off runway 07, as I got today (relayed via Blackbushe Information), for instance, is

Farnborough Radar clears G-EGLK to cross Farnborough CTR via M3 Junction 4, VFR, not above 2000 ft, hold north of M3 Junction 4, squawk 0461, QNH 1024, next frequency Farnborough Radar 133.440
.
