Of course you new aircraft might be a biplane or triplane with a small wingspan and you would put the registration across both wings and in this case the first half would read inwards.

Or you could be speaking about a non-part 21 glider in which case the only registration is the BGA trigraph which goes under the starboard wing (top of letter to leading edge) and so reads inward
