Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

Aren't they doing high speed development and testing where they're expecting failures and to learn from them? It's a test bed, I would rather get useful data than a polished, painted machine

The NASA of yesteryear are all dead. This is their grandchildren, so to speak.

And SpaceX doesn't have the huge amount of internal politics that were entrained within NASA.

Watch Hidden Figures, about the women computers who did all the work on the Mercury programme forward to Apollo.

Also, a good read is Riding Rockets by Mike Mullane. He was a Mission Specialist but uncovers all the internal politics within NASA.

So when shuttle finishes and all those scientists, Engineers and specialists are going spare, up pops Elon and says - work for me with no constraints !

We live in exciting times for sure.
