Send 'em to Scotland instead; I believe Kinloss is vacant (at the moment)

Steady on, RAF vacated in 2012, 39 Engineer Regiment moved in in 2012… to be fair, it was reported in March that £25m upgrades to accommodation were approved, a sure sign that an army barracks is about to close :D

The combat indicator for RAF closure always seems to be a runway resurface. Kinloss (runway) was resurfaced in 2019 then closed as a diversion/ satellite airfield last year.

ISTR hearing there that the Kinloss network of Nimrod size dispersals in the woods were paid for by NATO to enable deployments from US Canada and other European countries in case of high tension with USSR with Atlantic and North Sea dimension. Obviously, with collapse of USSR, analogous tension would never arise now .. :?

Sometimes.
In 1967, the RAF rebuilt all 4 T2 hangars at Bovingdon, only to close the airfield at the end of 1968.
