On time - when ploughing under the waves and into different time zones the clocks changed every couple of days whether travelling from west to east or east to west. I refused to commit to memory the nomenclature for hours added or subtracted either side of GMT. If out on a lengthy patrol and not visiting a foreign port, the clocks stayed the same. If going to New London or “Singers“ say, there was a letter added to actual time as we progressed. All we wanted to know, when we got out of our bunk at seven thirty was - is it time for breakfast or is the evening movie about to start. Time was not important - you were either on watch, sleeping or moving about wondering when you were going to get either !
