I think that was yesterday, not today.

Well done that pilot, and what a pity abut the damage. I do hope it's repairable. I had a look at that aircraft at Shobdon a little while ago and it was lovely.

Anyway, Id have said the pilot undid the straps and got out - no freeing needed

What should the writer write if he/she was unsure of the gender of the pilot?

The journalist should have journalised, and found out.

After all, they'd managed to determine that the pilot was uninjured so presumably weren't just guessing.

Why able to exit? Makes it sound as if it was an effort.

The pilot got out and was offered a cup of tea and a cigarette by a small boy

...or small girl.
