This is obviously getting rather OT for this thread, but re: measuring experience, for PPL holders I've always found it more interesting to see how many different places they've landed at than how many hours they have - I find it a much more useful indicator to someone's experience, as lots of different destinations means you know someone hasn't flown the same hour over and over again etc...

777 has TAC. Thrust Asymmetry Compensation. It’s a great system which saved at least one major carrier from rolling one inverted!

Sorry may have missed it in this overly long thread, but since the 'roadmap' has been tabled yesterday, when is it that:

> private flying (same household/bubble) can recommence, from airfield 'A' to airfield 'B' domestically?
> PPL training can recommence?
> single household/bubble fly privately overseas?

I expect this info will come out in dribs and drabs over the next few weeks. Can’t blame Boris for prioritising stuff : Even so he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t .

Their influence has led to the cycle of lockdown too late and release too early that we've seen over the last year. We finally seem to be taking some guidance from the specialists and it may be that the inescapable implications of the contrast between test trace and isolate and the vaccination programme have caused a little light to dawn. Let us hope so....

For recreational aviation, then subject to the opening status of airfields A and B, on March 8 if you have an open cockpit aircraft. Arguably the same date would apply to any aircraft - as this is when "open air recreation" will become a defined reasonable excuse again.

On March 29, "stay at home" will no longer be a legal requirement, so everyone will legally be allowed to fly, no ifs or buts (unless there are local lockdowns again!)

Overflight wrote:> PPL training can recommence?

"Training" (there is no stipulation it must be commercial) is currently already a reasonable excuse for gatherings and leaving home - so whenever the school/instructor in question decides that it can recommence. In practice that is likely to be from March 29 onwards, when the CAA will hopefully lift its guidance that currently claims this is forbidden.

The answer is the same as that to the first question - except there will be Covid testing and/or quarantining requirements on either end for some to come...

On Sunday, I needed to repair my suddenly very leaky garage roof. Due to the damage being caused, I considered this reasonably essential, so off I went to Wickes to get some supplies.

On the way, about 1.5-2 miles, I saw two chaps in fishtails on "blinged up" Lambrettas, you know the ones with too many mirrors, riding up the road towards me.

In Wickes at the till, the chap in front of me was buying a box of grass seed. I only really took notice as his card was declined and he took ages.

Back on the garage roof, I listened to numerous sports bikes doing their usual "Santa Pod" style starts away from the local traffic lights.

And then a Jodel flew over!

I genuinely thought I'd missed an announcement as it doesn't seem like many others were considering "essential travel only".

Step 1, part 1 – 8 March
All pupils and college students return fully, with before- and after-school clubs opened. For a period, secondary school pupils and older will wear masks in classes.
People can meet one other person outside for, say, a coffee or picnic, not just for exercise. Children will still count towards this.
Care home residents can receive one regular, named visitor.
The “stay at home” order will otherwise stay in place.

I can't see anything on march 8th that would necessarily permit us to fly, except if you are doing this for work-related reasons ie not private flight.

The reason the guidelines have stopped the rest of us aviating, is the 'stay at home rule'. That is supposed to end on the 29th March. After that, it will depend on the airfield owners and operators and how many airfield cafes will open.
