Alderney was CAVOK?

The newspaper report of the trial says that Jersey ATC told the pilot that Alderney and several airport in France had significantly better weather and could accept him.
There was another report that Cherbourg was CAVOK, hence I assumed that “significantly better weather” and Cherbourg’s “CAVOK” suggested that Alderney was also CAVOK.

Also, those METARs do not include SPECIs. Of which there were plenty that day. Making the weather better and occasionally worse.

Also, the advocate’s defence of not diverting to Alderney is;

She explained that the reason he didn’t attempt to land in either Alderney or France was because he wasn’t “as familiar with those airfields”

I find it surprising that a pilot in Jersey has never visited Alderney, especially as the link to a newspaper on the first post says that he was a "a former Secretary of the Jersey Aero Club". Something odd here.
