Another thing to be aware of, particularly for me like me who CBA to buy travel insurance for Europe, is that the EU medical card doesn't work in the CI. If you get ill and you don't have insurance you're on your own. Depending on what's wrong with you, your cheapest option might be a helicopter medevac to France, as long as you get there before #brexshit of course, but not if you're too ill to be moved or if, as is usually the case, Alderney is fogged in.

A very important point because there used to be reciprocal arrangements between the U.K. and the islands which ceased a few years ago. The need for medical insurance is a relatively new issue and occasional visitors may not have picked that up.

Thanks for all your comments.
I used to fly from Enstone but now fly from Hinton, not that it makes much difference to the question and answers.

Now, I would never have considered Compton abbas as an intermediate landing point as I always went east of solent before. But having played with a few routes it's slightly shorter in time, a lovely airfield (CA) and a slightly shorter water crossing. :thumleft:

I'll just have to read up on going directly over Salisbury plain.

It gets even more fun when contemplating working/flying/flying for work in a British Overseas Territory with a mix of local regulation and delegated oversight, as found in the South Atlantic... Working out how many different bits of paperwork are needed to clear a UK based/licensed FI to carry out Instructor/Examiner training for UK licence holders on VP reg aircraft in Falklands airspace for ASSI (UK CAA subsidiary for overseas) approvals is an interesting challenge!

Sandown appears OK as well if CA is a bit challenging cloudbase wise.

Genuinely curious....

Jersey has a special relationship with the European Union (EU). In simple terms, the Island is treated as part of the European Union for the purposes of free trade in goods, but otherwise is not a part of the EU. The formal relationship is set out in Protocol 3 of the UK's 1972 Accession Treaty and confirmed in what is now Article 355 (5) (c) of the EU Treaties.

See https://www.gov.je/Government/Departmen ... andUK.aspx for more details

Sounds ideal!
