I have been moved to Scunthorpe. Are there any active LAA Struts near to me?

Have you checked the LAA website?

Look on the LAA website, under Clubs and Struts:-

Just quickly looking for you it looks like the nearest is either Full Sutton near York, or Gainsborough.

Don’t forget to wear beige trousers with zips that turn them into shorts, a beige casual ‘driving jacket’, beige short sleeve shirt (buttoned to the top) and beige slip on shoes. Sock colour is largely up to you.

I’ve seen people go really wild with their socks, and blue/grey (actually together, on the same sock) has even been seen at the Kent Strut meetings once. :)

@Glidingdoc

Not directly under the LAA umbrella , but pretty close to is The Real Aeroplane Flying Group at Breighton . http://www.realaero.com

They seem to be real good people and have some great activities with not only aeroplanes , but also classic cars , military vehicles , RC modellers ,,,etc.

And close to 'Scunnie' too [ but apart from that it's alright ,, :D ]

But why is East Angular such a desert?

ISTR @Flintstone tried to set something up at at Nuthampstead, but I didn't manage to get there, and have heard nothing more.

Surely there are enough LAA members in the area..

Has Scunthorpe moved, I thought it was in Lincolnshire rather than the distinctly un desert-like this week East Anglia?

Barry Hunter is the man for LAA strut info in the N Lincs area.

Definitely still in Lincs C66... :D . But I think that townleyc was simply making the point that some areas of the country have a serious dearth regarding LAA struts . Not just E.Anglia , but it's also pretty sparse between N.England and Scotland .

I really don't know if there is any 'magic bullet' for this , as some struts seem to be extremely active and well subscribed to , whilst others seem to be teetering on the brink of extinction .

I have wondered several times in the past , whether LAA Struts should be tied to actual airfields , as are EAA chapters in the U.S. as I have attended several EAA events and breakfast fly-in's at different U.S. airfields and noticed that they seem to really bond the airfields 'people' together . Not just the homebuilders , but also the other pilots on the field , sometimes even the airfield Manager .

Obviously , the EAA has many times more members than its UK equivalent and both organisations operate completely different systems . It's just a pity that our Struts seem a bit sparse and few and far between , whilst their Chapters seem to be robustly supported and very well subscribed to .
But having said all that , I'm most definitely not criticising the LAA at all . They do a damn fine job as intermediaries to the CAA in representing the interests of us UK PtF operators .

I am sure he knows it is too (hence the wink  )

The question originally posed was regarding existence of a LAA strut near Scunthorpe , of which there is one.

See LINSY Strut information and POC (PilotBarry on Flyer Forum) via the link below:
