Hi,

Does anyone know if this is now law ie. SERA 5001 applies for cloud minima in Class D below 3000ft ? Haven't asked for a Class D VFR transit for a while and have only just caught up with it. Apologies if someone has already posted what happened. Believe it was due to pass in September.

SERA is the law.
However, the CAA has the power to issue various exemptions. The current one on this matter is ORS4 No. 1312.

I never understood why the exemption only applies to transiting aircraft. With cloud at 1700' you could happily transit at eg 1500'. But if you intend to land in the class D you can't legally go above 700'. In both cases you're in class D under radar control so why the difference? Or have I misunderstood the regs (entirely possible)

...and how exactly do you measure the latter?

(Edited stupid typo!)
