Garmin Aera 795 + GDL 50 problem

I don't know if there is anyone out there who uses the Garmin Aera 795 along with the GDL 50R attitude unit?
We have an aircraft with that combination and the attitude information keeps dropping out then reconnecting after a minute or two. We have tried connecting via bluetooth and via a hardwired connection but it keeps happening. We have also swapped the GDL 50 but it hasn't fixed the problem. The next step would be to swap out the Aera 795 (Garmin Support have been very accommodating about this) but that won't work if it is some sort of setup / config issue.
If anyone has any ideas they would be greatl appreciated.
