.. bah; that's in the (relatively) tropical South. 'T' designators even more important here, but not painted on the graded surface because it's always under snow :)

Not really, because you then wouldn't be able to see where it was on your DI to be able to pick out the correct one when approaching.

There you have me! These old eyes can't really see the numbers at the sort of distance I am when lining up with the DI. They are strictly devices for the overhead.
