The Comet 4 and Super VC10 at Duxford , both in BOAC livery always look stunning: The VC10 in BOAC Cunard has been used as a 'period piece' in several BA adverts over the years.( 0.44sec)

You're damn right there Iceman ! And the only person who had the balls to rail against it was a little old lady with a handbag attending a trade conference , who walked up to the BA trade-stand and covered the tail of the model display aircraft with a napkin .

What a complete and utter waste of money. An absolutely pointless exercise that adds nothing to the bottom line and, as pointed out by Iceman, flies in the face of a uniform and smart looking fleet. The hodge podge of awful tails we used to fly were embarrassing and cost BA a fortune in fees for the artists and it was SO good when the switch was made to all aircraft with the Chatham tail (and Ayling getting the boot).

Apart from appealing to a bunch of spotters, getting all hot and bothered under their parkers and some old farts reminiscing from their armchairs about the good old days of BOAC, I think this just detracts from the BA corporate image, is totally unnecessary and will just cost more money when they have to paint it again in the 'normal' colours........if it makes it that far as it'll probably be parked in the desert by then.

During the restoration of the JAM Trident one side (now, landside) was painted in its last BEA colours ..

.. and the other (now airside, so now visible only to fly-in visitors and passing traffic on 09/27) in its last BA ones, as seen before repainting (ie, as it left the Stansted fire dump!) among these:

[ISTR the Trident in BKS colours before the yellow 'North East' ones. And at British Eagle we got 1-11s well ahead of Cambrian, our direct competitors on Speke-Heathrow when they still had only Viscounts. They definitely lost passengers to us. Oh, and I liked the British Eagle maroon scheme and stylised 'E' logo .. :)

They were certainly widely ridiculed! I was in regional engineering BA for much of that time, and must admit some of us found them vaguely useful: We could look across the apron from wherever we were working and see which aircraft were back, without having to go back to the office and check or drive up close to check the reg. ATPs in the tartan livery looked quite smart.

DAS at Duxford are just finishing the repaint of the Viscount, and very nice it looks too.

Trident next into the Conservation hall for repaint in a coupla weeks.

The British weather takes it out of these old girls, and DAS constantly negotiates for a few weeks at a time in Conservation with IWM, in between IWM's big money earning events like the Quilting Show.....
