(We do know, of course. Whilst it's "a 1g manoeuvre" if you do it right, if you don't then it isn't., and the load limits will be quickly exceeded. It can be done; most choose not to as the risk/reward caluculation doesn't work).

As I said before - who says they can't be, I fly Airbus but would think the 787 works on similar principles, there will almost certainly be control laws that stop you rolling beyond a certain angle but that can probably be overcome by turning computers off.

Boeing let you do what you want, just artificially boost the control forces. Mr Boeing also says full control column displacement always equals full control surface movement.

However, from what I read about the MAX Brand B seem to be as bad as Brand A at various computers “augmenting” characteristics with some nasty failure modes.

I recall that the A380 was designed to be built longer if needed. So the bigger wings were a ‘common part’ to reduce costs if they went ahead with the long body model. Emirates wanted them, but sadly they were alone in that desire.


That’s right - the A380 wing was sized for the stretched version (known at the time as A3XX-200), with 800 pax. It was to have used the strengthened wing from the A380F, which was to have been launched between the two passenger variants. The MTOW of the stretch was 600 tonnes. Unlikely to ever happen now though.
