Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

From what I've been told by US controllers, the services provided align with those provided under TS.

In the US there is no separate ATC or 'traffic information' system for VFR traffic - that's a UK/European thing. Most US airspace is Class E. When an aircraft operating VFR in that airspace (or higher classification airspace) chooses to talk to ATC, that controller is also handling all IFR traffic in the same area. There is no hard distinction between controlled and uncontrolled operations and areas except in e.g. busier areas around ATC-controlled airports where Class D or higher is the norm and radio contact is mandatory, and also above 18,000 feet where the only US Class A airspace exists.

Flight Service is also separately available to US VFR traffic to provide weather and flight plan filing services, but it is not ATC. VFR flight plans and ATC are unrelated in the US, and serve primarily a Search and Rescue function for people who choose to file them.
