This was published by the EU yesterday.... It's fairly short (4 pages, the first of which is quoted below) - you'll need to click the link to see the refs.

The United Kingdom submitted on 29 March 2017 the notification of its intention to withdraw from the Union pursuant to Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union. This means that, unless a ratified withdrawal agreement(1) establishes another date, all Union
primary and secondary law will cease to apply to the United Kingdom from 30 March 2019, 00:00h (CET) ('the withdrawal date').(2) The United Kingdom will then become a 'third country'.(3)

Preparing for the withdrawal is not just a matter for EU and national authorities but also for private parties.

In view of the considerable uncertainties, in particular concerning the content of a possible withdrawal agreement, all stakeholders are reminded of legal repercussions, which need to be considered when the United Kingdom becomes a third country.(4)

Subject to any transitional arrangement that may be contained in a possible withdrawal agreement, as of the withdrawal date, the EU rules in the field of civil aviation safety will no longer apply to the United Kingdom. This has, in particular, the following consequences in the different areas of civil aviation safety:

Isn’t that more a point of wish and intent rather than a statement of fact at this stage.

AIUI there has to be an agreement that includes a transition period (i.e. not a “hard Brexit).

I believe that there is a similar situation with the free movement of data and our current ability for
organisations to provide the required data contact in the UK. Post Brexit then any organisation in the UK that is processing the personal data of people in the EU, or providing services into the EU that require the processing of personal data of EU citizens, will be in the same situation as other organisations worldwide and will be required to provide a representative in the EU unless we successfully negotiate otherwise. Continued free movement of data is in HMG’s negotiating position.

We've got lots of statements of intent. But just because our government has stated that it intends for everybody to have free rainbow coloured flying unicorns does not guarantee that the universe will conspire such as to grant the desires expressed in those statements of intent.

What about if they put it on the side of a bus. Will that make it true and fact. Or do we just have to ignore reality to make it fact?

This is why European aviation legislation is, as we speak, being redrafted to become UK law with the clear intention to replicate every dot and cross throughout the transition period. Quite what happens with those EU legislative changes after next March and our EASA status is perhaps less clear.

This wheel reinvention is going on across a wide range of industries and political/security arrangements and reflects the intent in Theresa May's famous speech on transition. That is that we will parallel the EU, have no say in their direction and set up a liaison system to ensure we stay in step for an indeterminate period. The transition phase is effectively to establish and stabilise the parallel universes by 2020.

If we then choose to go out of step in some context at some point, there may need to be specific arrangements in the relationship to deal with that.

As we've noted before disentangling 40 years of convergence is not likely to happen successfully in 2 years and in many cases ever, as what has been established makes sense as good industry practice anyway.

I hope that it's not quite as scary as it sounds.... because it sounds quite scary and fraught with problems.

It's to do with them understanding many of the practical tasks that need doing, 'cos they're professional and the bungling amateurs in Westminster are driving them nuts. They aren't building any empires, they aren't changing much, it's us who need a new bureaucratic empire to liaise with them.

It's exactly as scary as it sounds, why do you think I favour staying in rather than Brexit as the lesser of two evils????
