I have recently completed a CAA Self Medical Declaration. I received back an email back from the CAA entitled 'PMD-2580 - Pilot Medical Declaration individual application' with an attachment entitled 'PMD-receipt.pdf' , which is a copy of the Self Medical Declaration I submitted.

This may be a daft question, but having previously had a Class 2 medical and therefore not being familiar with the process, should I have had anything else back confirming my self declaration has been processed in to the CAA's records ?

That's what I thought, but it's not at all specific. I would have expected something along the lines of 'This declaration has been received and acknowledged'

Like you I expected something like "received and approved" or whatever, and emailed to query the status, but the response is that there is no approval or acceptance. One has simply made a declaration, and that's it.

Last year, they acknowledged receipt of my declaration.

Then they wrote to me, telling me they couldn't accept it. The form had been through various versions between me sending it and them looking at it. They said that they couldn't read it, yet managed to know my name and address!

It really isn't very clear.

Yes that appears to be it. I printed it off and have kept it with my licence. I think the clue is "self declaration"!

Let's hope "UK Pilot Disease" never becomes a disqualifier for a pilot UK self-declaration medical.
