I was just a young kid in the school Air Cadets in the mid-to-late 70's, and Her Majesty the Queen let me fly in every aircraft in the fleet...She flew me in a Chipmunk from Hullavington (I think); had sent me solo in a motorised aircraft from South Cerney at age fifteen; abseil from helicopters; get drunk in German bars in the villages surrounding Gutersloh and Wildenrath...from one of those I flew in a Hunter.
Flew in an EE Lightning from RAF Brawdy . I really did not appreciate at the time what it was. Plus my right hand seat in the VC10 from Benson to Ciampino and back.
The nurture of Cadets (the future of the RAF) was top-notch back then. And even after I applied to join, they didn't want my services. Hey-ho, I must be a Carp officer.
