MM, an ELA broke-up over Spain four years ago. Thankfully, an isolated case in my database.

... The probable cause of the accident was the bad weather conditions ...

Wave's point was that we don't get many A/C breaking up in the air. We (in the UK) do get some though unfortunately. So we are no different to Spain in that regard.

The point I'm arguing here is that the UK regulators are not somehow special and thus better than their counterparts in the rest of the first world. Claiming they are, smells of nationalism. Like saying we have the best justice system in the world while totally ignoring all the miscarriages of justice there have been over the years.

If our engineers and regulatory system are so wonderful , why do we have to rely johnny foreigner for pretty much all of our light aircraft?!

I totally disagree with the point that our regulators enable us to fly. We get to fly because a small number of highly motivated people are prepared to do battle with the regulator on our behalf. If it was left to the CAA the closest we'd come to piloting our own aircraft would be the occasional go on a Space Hopper.

The engineer I spoke to was saying that any new gyro manufacturer entering the market should ensure their maintenance needs to be "On condition" rather than time based or hours based, in order to simplify things and reduce running costs.

I obtained the pricing on the new sport.
