Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

It was an excellent fly-in which was very well organised. The marshalling was top class. Well done Henstridge & the Wessex Strut! We arrived just at the end of the crazy period of arrivals around midday. Consequently we had to park at the very western end of the south side parking which was a long walk to the activities.

It was good to see a presence from the LAA's top team but there was a lack of young people. I guess that the priorities of the young, both financial and temporal are elsewhere.

Yum, trifle.

Yes, apparently the airfield was closed for a short while when they got the broken aeroplane towed off the runway.

Compton had a flurry of diversions for a little while. An excellent day, overall, except for the incident pilot.

I am always impressed by the hours put in by those making these larger events happen . As one of those parked in the far SW corner, I think the additional exercise slightly mitigated the effects of any indulgence.

Going home, there was some weird weather along Mig Alley - I have been trying to think of any other time when it's been hazy and gungy-looking (yet not gungy in reality) under cloud, but also thermic.

North of Gatwick, M25, north of Redhill, south of Biggin.

Other alleys are available.

There can be a lot of traffic in the narrow gap between Gatwick and Heathrow CTRs, with Redhill, Biggin Hill, Kenley, Fairoaks, Farnbrough, Blackbushe, Dunsfold, etc., all feeding transiting and local training traffic into this narrow corridor. Hence, it can be likened to running Mig Alley with bogeys all over you :D.

I have met both Harriers (one went down either side of me) and an A340 in Class G Mig Alley (the Virgin A340 was repositioning Dunsfold to Heathrow after completion of filming of the James Bond Casino Royale at Dunsfold) so you have to keep your eyes out for traffic  .
