Quick heads-up..... The film "Yanks" was shot in several local locales...A re-enactment weekend was organised some 15 years ago.

It's a terrific weekend out, with local businesses supporting and a huge number of people in period-dress as well as the re-enactors...everyone from "Churchill" waving from a Humber staff-car.
to immaculate, monocled German officers strutting around.
Uppermill ,- A669 from Oldham, A670 from Ashton under lyne....or alight train at Greenfield and walk the 1/4 mile....you'll probably have to park Greenfield and walk, anyway!....or drive right through the village, park Diggle or Dobcross.
Saturday's flypast is scheduled for 12.30 -/ 1.30 (can't remember which) We usually get 2 or 3 passes straight up the valley, along the high street, turning over Greenfield and running back between the hills

This year we are told to expect Lanc, Spitfire AND Hurricane.

The flypast will be repeated on Sunday at 15.30
...there will be a large display-convoy of ex-Military vehicles through the village, midday, Sunday......nearly forgot, local Air Cadets got a £500 donation out of it, last year.
Unfortunately, nearest "fly-in" is Barton about 15 miles away.
