Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

Heard on the radio while tracking Northbound inland of the California coast near Pt Magu Naval Air Station at Ventura, California:

Commuter pilot: "Pt Magu, Commuter xxx Southbound tracking the coast 20 mi N".
Pt Magu: "Commuter, Warning Area W-xxx is active, remain clear".
Commuter pilot: "Er, that's not restricted airspace, right? I mean, we're not legally required to remain clear?"
Pt Magu: "We're about to launch a missile. Remain clear".
Commuter pilot: "Tracking the shoreline southbound" (ie into the warning area)

What seemed like a long silence...

Commuter pilot: "Pt Magu, when are you launching that missile?"
Pt Magu: "NOW! Turn left 90 deg immediate!"

Unfortunately at this point I had to change frequency.

What did you have in mind? If going in that direction, I'd suggest books on advanced optics. That's a good field for kids looking to become involved in laser weapons, as now being developed in the US to take down ballistic missiles. At least they'd learn something useful.
