I spent a fair bit of timing cruising around 12,000ft last autumn and tended to think I was absolutely fine too. It was mainly flying in long, single straight lines with the aircraft trimmed out. Then, I heard a mildly amusing exchange on ATC and was laughing for about 5 minutes, which rather gave me pause for thought. Bear in mind that hypoxia can be very insidious, and one of the most common initial symptoms is euphoria.
I know it's a silly username. If you've met me, I probably introduced myself as Josh...

It was about 30 minutes so should have been OK. It certainly wasn't a relaxing cruise either - we were in mountain wave / moderate turbulence - don't think I've ever been kept busier before :)

I can easily see how it could creep up on you if you were in a long smooth cruise though.

I'm rarely euphoric so I guess my passengers would soon notice if there was anything wrong

What were you flying? Cactus' website is good, I'm tempted already!

I was flying in a Piper Arrow PA28R-201.

They also have three Warriors, an Archer, a 172 and a Cirrus SR20.

What's wrong with that picture?

Sorry to revive an old thread but just noticed this.

Perhaps Frank is referring to landing on the taxiway, which according to someone I know is mighty close to parked aircraft. Too close for one pilot, apparently. Or is it plummeting onto that school at the approach end that he's worried about ?

Anyway, here's the same place from 12,000' a couple of weeks back.

Interesting thing was, from that level, there is cell phone coverage!

Yeah, but you're only 2000' above terrain max. I wish I had better photos of Flagstaff to compare but I was too busy bouncing off the cockpit roof on final
