About 80mph on a rough calculation without looking up the length of the aircraft - shortish, your home field?

Coincidentally, the first time I have ever seen this phenomenon at Welshpool was on Sunday morning, when a Marchetti was departing having attended our fly-in.

Fascinating shots! We're all told about the spiral airflow coming from the propeller and have seen diagrams in books, but to see it in this context is great!

(Okay, even if it's not really showing the spiral airflow, one can picture it!)

Wow! Those are really great shots! I have never seen that (and it perfectly illustrates the 'tight spiral' or the propwash at slow airspeeds).

Does it? I think it illustrates the passage of the prop tips through the air, probably modified by a bit of propwash.

Brilliant shots, Skyhawk! Seen similar from C130s and stuff but never light stuff.

Yak 52s will do that - I've seen it a couple of times in high humidity during my extremely limited Yaxperience.

If you want to see what looks like water vapour on the prop tips from inside the aircraft during a stall turn, take a look at this video.
Its at 00:54 so you dont have to watch the lot.
Our Deanland ALG fly-in is 8th June 2013 Fly-Ins and Social Events for more info
