Development of Weston airfield

Postby David Williams » Thu Aug 21, 2003 5:48 pm

The last time I went to Weston (near Dublin) some time last summer, a taxi driver told us that there were major changes afoot. There was going to be massive investment by a private entrepreneur to transform the airfield into a more business-capable airfield.

I've just received an email from a surfer who's visited my website, and he confirms that work has started on lengthening the runway to about twice its original length, and that new hangars are to be built by the end of the year.

Let's hope the airfield will remain GA-friendly and that light aircraft won't be squeezed out (or priced out) by the bizjets. If the friendly atmosphere of the airfield can be preserved then the investment seems good news for the future of the airfield, which is an ideal GA airfield for visiting Dublin.

Has anyone been into Weston recently? Can anyone confirm whether Weston will remain GA friendly?

Went to Weston on a club fly in in early July this year. Ten PA28's pouncing on them all within one hour!

They were fantastic. Very GA friendly and a lovely combination on professional, yet relaxed, helpful and informal at the same time. Cant remember the precise fee, but was aound the usual

The Irish folk have a "Knack" of making everyone welcome.

Great place - long may it continue :)

Excellent field, well worth a visit. I just wish all the major airports in the UK were as open and friendly as Dublin approach.

I also went on that club fly out Steve H. If anyone out there would like to see some photos of the approach, and the field. Checkout my homepage, there is a link in my profile.
