Skydemon flight plan question?

Postby JonBoy » Sat Jul 21, 2012 6:48 am

Question - I've filed out and return flight plans for today (Sat) for a VFR day trip to Le Touquet, using Skydemon Ipad. (Avoiding R112 by going through the Southend corridor!). On the Skydemon e-mail confirmations of filing, for the outbound leg, 7 different addresses are listed and appear to include all the usual ones. For the return leg however only one is listed, namely LFQQZPZX. Is this correct?

I've tried a couple of different things (costing 50p each time!), ie specifying a point for FIR crossing (MOTOX) and another time substituting this for a lat/long point but still got the same singular address each time. Maybe this is normal but it doesn't seem quite right to me?

I don't know about Skydemon but if I file a return flight plan on AFPEx from northern France to England, Lille will always re-file it with all the same information.

Perhaps Skydemon knows this and, therefore, only needs to address it to Lille.

Each of our flight plans for a flight today to Le Touquet is getting rejected by Atlas (or in the last case just not responded to). When we call them up Atlas provide varying advice which often contradicts what the previous person said needed to be filled in. The issue appears to be that the Atlas system doesn't recognise French airfields. I've been advised to enter the 11 digit long/lat (which I've been doing all along). Most recently they've told us not to bother with long/lat but enter SOVAT as the recognised FIR boundary for flights to Le Touquet.

Have just filed flight plan using their latest advice. Has anyone managed to successfully file for Le Touquet using Skydemon and if so how?

The now promulgated answer is to place an 11 character latlong in the route at the FIR boundary and then to do an EET to that same latlong in Item 18.

Indeed. But that doesn't actually work. The flight plans were still getting rejected in my experience.

What has finally worked is NOT to use the 11 char latlong in route, but instead - for the Le Touquet destination - use SOVAT. So the flight plan might read DCT DVR DCT SOVAT on the outbound leg.

JonBoy, I believe addressing for a flight departing France is in accordance with their AIP, i.e. they wish to address and send the onward flightplans themselves which they do. We will always add EGGOLYMP though if you're coming back here and going into the zone.

I can confirm that we're seeing flightplans to LFAT routing via SOVAT go through. Here's an example, modified to make it anonymous, that was accepted by Atlas earlier:

(FPL-XXX-VG
-PA32/L-S/C
-EGXX0900
-N0154VFR DCT LAM DCT SOVAT
-LFAT0041
-EET/5110N00047E0022 LFFF0038 RMK/CREATED BY SKYDEMON RMK/PILOT XXX DOF/120721)

Many thanks for the replies, especially Jodelman with the answer to my specific Q and to Tim for confirming. I didn't know about the principle that Lille addresses flight plans for French departures themselves and all you have to do is get it to them! I guess I was trying to think about it all too much - Skydemon is of course far more clever than me!
The better half and I did the Le Touq lunch run yesterday and the Skydemon-filed flight plans worked out perfectly with no probs at all. "Simples"
