Radio licence

Postby Rotorboater » Fri Jun 29, 2012 8:52 pm

I am probably being stupid but I can't make out if I need to take a further test for my RT license that expires next month, the CAA make all their stuff clear as mud!
Any help appreciated RB

no - not if you've been using it. Does the date tie in with any known licence expiry you have or had?

Yes, my pplh expires the same day but last time it expired it was just a paperwork (cheque) exercise, I assume I just send them loads more money for a piece of paper again :x

yes, you just renew the flying licence and the radio one gets done automatically. I don't think you actually need to apply for the radio one if you are doing the other.

Your FRTOL doesn't get renewed automatically when you apply for your PPL(H) renewal.
Tut tut Irv, you should know better. Now write out 100 lines. 'I need to fill in another form'.

You'll need to fill in THIS FORM and send it with your PPL(H) renewal application. There's no charge for renewing your FRTOL.

Don't know why ppl-h makes any difference, but i do not recall filling in a radio form for a radio renewal on a cpl, so if there isn't a tick box on the licence form it must have been done automatically as both came back issued. Apologies if it is needed in your case

Irv, maybe your renewal was processed by someone with a bit of common sense :)
The above form is needed for all FRTOL renewals, regardless of licence. Most don't even know that they expire after 10 years.

Thanks for the info, I only just noticed the RT expires soon, I always thought they were indefinite but I suppose the CAA like extra paperwork! :D

After a discussion at work because I thought mine expired after ten years I checked to find the following wording on my FRTOL

This licence shall remain in force from 23 Aug 1998 for the holder's lifetime unless revoked, suspended or varied.

However I do notice that it has my old address on it which wasn't done when I updated my other licences with the CAA.
After all is said and done, more is said than done.

I have never ever renewed any of my 1984 vintage lifetime licences, although I vaguely recall the CAA sending me an unrequested replacement flying licence. I can't remember the reason, (possibly to indicate that I might be able to speak some level of English....) My lifetime FRTOL remains fading a nice shade of yellow and complete with the wrong address.

I sent my licence off at the start of June for it to be renewed as it expires at the end of July. They have sent it back three time saying that they can only renew it within 60 days of the expiry date......

I have posted it again this morning with an appropriately snotty letter and the franking stamps from the envelopes.

When giving blood, ladies of under a certain age have to answer the question 'are you within 12 months of giving birth?'. How do they all know?
